Hi Bert
-=> Quoting Bert Quillin to Barbara Hazen <=-
BQ> Well, thank the Lord for high tech. These types of wonderful
BQ> accomplishments are becoming more and more available. What a wonderful
BQ> thing, the manner in which such miraculous items become common place.
Here Here. I also have several things which are more a novelty. For
example, I have a talking clock which crows like a rooster as its'
alarm. I also just got a clock which plays a different Christmas chorus
for each hourly chime. I think it's neat. Goes with my collection of
anything musical.
BQ> Several years ago I was corresponding with a young woman and her
BQ> husband, both of whom were disabled persons. She was a quadriplegic and
BQ> typed out her messages by holding a pencil in her mouth and moving from
BQ> key to key. Lost contact with her when they were both hired by a state
BQ> agency to fill some specialty positions in another city.
That is great. I think adapting is always interesting. I have a friend
who is both deaf and blind. She is also a Ameteur radio operator. She
talks using Morse code and puts her hand on the speaker to feel the
vibrations to get her replies.
BQ> Bet you love that baby. This family contributes regularly to the
BQ> "Guide Dogs of America" located in Sylmar, California. I think they
BQ> recently made a name change to: "International Guide Dogs, Ltd". They
BQ> were nearly wiped out a few years ago as a result of that last
BQ> horrendous earthquake in Southern California.
It is especially wonderful to have my dog since I had to send her back
for some extra training. She just arrived back on Dec. 17. That is
one reason I do not want to leave her alone unless absolutely necessary.
BQ> So many people fail to recognize the value of a dog, and many detest
BQ> them for no identifiable reason. Mostly ignorance. It is assumed that
BQ> you are very fond of yours and probably others, and as a matter of
BQ> interest, I am sending on something to you that you might enjoy. It was
BQ> run some years ago in one of the Pet Echoes.
Thanks alot for that. It almost made me cry given my recent experience
without mine. I also crossposted it to another echo which deals
specifically with therapy service dogs. I hope you don't mind. You
might also like to know that my retired guide dog is now a registered
therapy dog. This means that his new owners take him into nursing homes
to help the residents. He is also a school mascott.
Take care and Happy holidays
Barb
