-> And MORE birds. We saw a flock of redwing blackbirds on our way ito
-> town today, and I saw a "Lesser Grebe" nesting the last time I went
-> to the bird sanctuary on the Rio Grande. (pretty rare anywhere else)
Grebes are amazing water birds; we don't have them here, but I have seen
some strange-looking little tiny ducks lately that dive like grebes,
swimming underwater for long distances.
-> We have two outstanding wildlife photographers, (One on each station)
-> who document everything that goes on in our little corner of the
-> world. One of them sort of specializes on Amazons, while the other
-> leans toward raptors.
Sounds like you live in a bird lover's paradise. It certainly is
uniquely beautiful down there, too. Deserty beach, mexican food, warm
clear water, parrots in the air. Hmm, I'm getting carried away- always
get like this about beaches in the winter.
-> Get him on my OLD_ENGINE echo. We talk about all kinds of that
-> stuff.
I'll tell him to get it, if we don't get the echo now. Are you the
moderator? Charlie was a diesel mechanic for years. Now he's a
supervisor, but he still gets his hands all greasy whenever possible.
-> WAIT! I never said they were quiet! I said they were "not as
-> loud" as most of the other Amazons.
OK, Lilac Crowns are loudmouths, too. I want an outdoor aviary I can
stick Zigs in when she gets carried away screaming for Charlie an hour
before he gets home. I think that would be the best way to deal with
the volume (AND the feather dust). I used to cover her cage, but that
seems kinda cruel, so I stopped and just scream back now. It's
cathartic, but exhausting.
-> Well, back to the New Year's festivities.
->
-> Have a great new year. Ours is off to a rousing start. CAR trouble!
Same to you! Our ancient Toyota fleet is actually all running at the
moment. It's a miracle.
