analogue fm tuner specifications
____________________________
capture ratio -- ability to capture one station on the same
frequency as another, and based on different signal strength.
am rejection -- varying fm signal strength produces noise;
less, though, in a tuner with high am rejection. this doesn't refer
to am radio.
image rejection -- a higher number says multi path signals
won't tend to interfere as much with the direct one. causes of
multi path include mountains and buildings.
reduce am radio noise
___________________
combine the outputs of two am tuners with one tuned to a
broadcast signal and the other to inter signal noise a few kilohertz
away and with its output inverted. mixing the two's audio can dra-
magically cut atmospheric and other noise sources.
Thanks to Compuserve's CEAUDIO Forum, 1994, for the ideas (slightly
rewritten) that appear in a file FMTIPS.ZIP on the UNT (University
of North Texas) public BBS.
