Got a modem for Christmas, some "56K for $56" job-lot special so
generic they don't even have the manufacturer's name on the box.
Turns out it's a BestData Smartmodem 56F. Only has two sheets
of installation instructions in the way of docs. There is a
website, and it has a doc file on their 28.8 modems, but not
one on the 56Kflex models. Anyone know anything about it?
In particular, the +MS command? I get:
at+ms?
56,1,300,56000,0,0,33600
OK
at+ms=?
(0,1,2,3,9,10,11,56,64,69),(0,1),(300-56000),(300-56000),
(0,1),(0,1),(300-33600)
OK
The 28K docs show the first four parameters:
+MS - Select Modulation
This extended-format command selects the modulation,
optionally enables or disables automode, and optionally
specifies the lowest and highest connection rates using
one to four subparameters. The command format is:
+MS=,,,
It then explains those in more detail. Anyone know what the
additional three parameters for the 56K mean? The last in
particular is puzzling (the two before it are merely cryptic:
on/off choices could mean anything at all). Why should the
range of that stop at 33600 on a 56K modem?
... Because I have loved life, I shall have no sorrow to die.
