Hello Tom -

CA>> "Lindows", as it was originally named, advertised that
CA>> it's Windows emulator was better than 'wine' the more
CA>> common Windows emulator for Linux. It was _supposed_ to be
CA>> a selling point at one time that Linspire could execute
CA>> some Windows software.

TW> I haven't seen any mention of that in a long time.

Nor have I but it was the #1 reason anyone even noticed
"Lindows" was out there. At the start they had no 'deals' with
Walmart nor any Lindows specific (cheap) hardware to install it
on either.

TW> They are pushing their Subscription service heavely.

Here it seems they are pushing the cheap hardware more than
what OS it is using.

TW> Adn I KNOW they are NOT providing any Windows programs
TW> under that. Adn before you get excited about Selling "FREE"
TW> programs it is a service charge for the "convience". It is
TW> my understanding that each program installs diectly off the
TW> internet. Very minimual operator interaction. IE, Linux
TW> dummies. :-) :-)

AFAIK each separate distribution of Linux has it's own
auto-installer or auto-updater. RPM and "apt-get" spring to
mind but there are others that will automatically install
and/or update a full install of Linux of that type. Linspire is
no longer unique in that regard.

TW> I should jump on the bandwagon. I see where my local Frys
TW> has the Linspire special for $179 this week.

If you're feeling 'froggy' then jump! ;-)

TW> Some of the names jumping on the Linspire bandwagon are;
TW> Wal-Mart, Fry's, Amazon.com, MicroCenter Online, CompUSA,
TW> PC Club, New Egg, Best Buy, PC Mall, J & R Com, and Tiger
TW> Direct. Most are internet only sales though. Someone else
TW> other then me must think it has soemthing going for it.

Most of the companies you list above are guilty of unethical
business practices or are just outright dishonest. These are
the same companies that would have sold Packard-Bell a few
years ago.
