Mike, I am *NEARLY* finished writing a set of low-level (DosDevIOCtl) ASYNC routines using Borland C++ for OS/2 1.5. It's part of an attempt to write a decent OS/2 "DOOR" creation kit, PLUS learn about OS/2 async programming. I'm finding it to be easier in OS/2 than DOS, but I have a ways to go. If you're interested, I'll put it up for F'Req when I complete it. I still need to find-out how to flush the input and output queues, and get/set extended baud rates.
