Hi Frank ... on 9 Jan 97 you were asking Nathan,
FG> NB> They just don't want everyone driving to Canada to buy
FG> NB> scanners. It's still legal there. Besides,
FG> But are the scanners sold there cell-unblocked?
No ... the new ones are sold with the cellular blocked.
FG> Or am I wrong? Could I just walk into a Radio Shack in Canada,
FG> punch in a cell frequency in one of their rigs (assuming it covers
FG> above 512 mhz at all, of course), and not see it rejected?
Yes and no :-) Not a Radio Shack! However, many communications dealers
openly advertise in the newspapers for full cellular coverage scanners.
I purchased a fully guaranteed "refurbished" Bearcat BC200-XLT one year
ago with all the frequencies fully operational from a local retail
communications store here in Richmond, B.C.
Of course, I wouldn't want any of my American friends to even think that
I would be interested in listening to any of those verboten frequencies :-))
Bye for now ... Bob
