I really liked having all the QB/BASIC7 subs in a proceedure list and away
from the sub that I was editing. For me, its having less code in one window
to manage and sort through when I need to change or look at code in another
sub/function.
I really don't care about re-formating and syntax checking, I personally
prefer all my code in lower case. I would imagine this type of feature would
require abit of system resources which I would rather be available to runing
the code in the IDE environment ... which comes to my biggest wish point with
the PowerBASIC IDE.
I would very much appreciate XMS and/or EMS full features in the IDE, so I
can load a 1meg program with maybe 100K of assembler libraries and run it all
from the IDE. This having to break programs up into testible modules is a
liitle of a pain to me. It's sort of like QB back in the days of 640K only.
Who runs a machine without a minimun of 4 megs these days?
To break large programs up into units that can be tested without making an
EXE takes and wastes time.
Why can't the PB IDE take full advantage of all memory in the programmers
computer to load and test code?
I wouldn't mind a drop in IDE performance to have this feature, so long as
the finished EXE was upto top speed.
At my current configuration, I get 170K of IDE code space with 70K of
libraries loaded. 170K is just abit limiting for folk like me who work on
large programs.
BTW: QB and BASIC7 have this problem too! Obvously I feel I am not
understanding something here as to the _why_ factor of such a small
environment to load and run code. All my larger programs have had to suffer
the VB engine which to me is a pain in itself, but it easily enabled me to
load a 400K file and run and debug it in the IDE environment.
Please educate me!
Ken
