Never tried mine exclusively for sound. I see that both mine and my dad's 
entry level one from 1982 have PCM inputs on the back. I'm not knowledgeable 
about how much you can do with this. Obviously, you need an outboard A/D 
converter or the bitstream output from a CD-ROM. But what's the fastest 
sampling rate you can use? Something faster than 441kHz?
 Hope the moderator doesn't mind all this talk about VIDEO recorders in the 
AUDIO echo. :-)
