JR>market that are excellent tables that would far out perform what I have
JR>also talked in great length about the newer designs from Audio Technica
JR>sylus
JR>shapes and how I could get a radical improvement in overall sound quali
JR>to one of the new style cartridges reguardless of whether or not I repl
JR>table. So, I have a few questions for anybody that is still into record
JR>this newer stylus design that is supposed to penetrate deeper into the
JR>make the radical difference that he led me to beleive? I currently hav
JR>Audio Technica cartridge with an eliptical design that does have quite
JR>miles on it (bought it new in '84 and it was one of thier better ones).
If your old cartridge is worn out it probably has already done a number on
your
records. The law of diminishing returns sets in fairly early on the Audio
Technica cartridge lineup. I wouldn't spend a whole lot of money on one
just because some guy told me about some "radical improvements".
JR>probobly most important. What is a good way to clean your records now.
JR>The old
JR>Discwasher brush just does not cut it on the old albums anymore. They
JR>sound great but they crackle way too much for my blood. I'm hoping tha
JR>better cleaning method would cure a large majority of the crackle. Any
JR>I can get would be greatly appreciated! With the price of good used re
JR>being so cheap now, it would be awsome if I could bring these critters
JR>life. I even listed to quite a few of my old albums the last couple of
JR>days and
JR>the sound quality is great, it's just that anoying background crakle th
JR>making me leary of investing this much in some newer equipment if there
JR>cure for the crackle.
I think your albums probably don't crackle anymore than they ever did. You
are
just used to CD's and you now notice noise more.
I hadn't listened to my "War of the Worlds" lp in about 7 years. I was
amazed at
all the crackles on it a few weeks ago when I played it. You'll just have to
learn how to ignore them like you used to.
