Dave accepted an invitation to the Tidy Bowl by saying:

My God, Dave, the players DID give up a lot on the smaller AND bigger issues.
The OWNERS cancelled the series and made it look like the players gave them
no choice because they wanted the leverage to impose their will on the
players. Ownership did everything to alienate the players and apparently
their spin control was good enough to convince you of their RIGHTNESS in this
issue (The players bent over backwards to show good faith while the owners
did everything to show that they couldn't be trusted). The owners shut down
the season when they did because it meant not paying the players their last
payments of the season.
