Retirement for an active officer is a hard thing to accept and accomplish,
Our work is our life. Our families vecsame secondary to the job and suffered
a "normal" social contacts can be neglected.
I was guilty.
Bulding the bridges back to a family that feels their needs were neglected is
a long term thing.
When kids were sked what they thought about my disability retirement , both
said the same thing. "At least we get to see him now!".
But then again I was a workaholic and as any active and succesful officer
will be, I made myself available to anyone at any time.
The "suits" bought me home injured more than once.
It took me three years before I would listen to a svanner and it is a relief
to NOT have to have to carry a gun, or even keep one real close.
I was fortunate enough tobe able to live in a nice area
