That's typical Maddux. He has to pitch a gem every time out or he's going to
get beat. If he was getting the kind of support that Smoltz did, he would
have won 19 or 20 this year (Smoltz's support dropped to 5.11 but at one
point, it was over 7). He's been the poorest support Braves' starter for the
past three years in a row and I've lost my data for 1993 but I'm sure he was
no better than the second worst supported pitcher then.

I think it's reflected in their individual RPAs that I calculate each year.
Jones led the team with a .338 RPA, which was better than Burks at .326 but
the rest of the team, after Klesko at .316, did poorly (McGriff had an
extremely poor RPA of .280).
