CA>CA>> Linspire is an attempt to commercialize free software
CA>CA>> (GNU/Linux) why bother with it?

CA>TW> It appears to be a laymans WORKING LINUX system. NOT having
CA>TW> to have a Super Geek holding your hand is a botherable
CA>TW> situation.

CA>KNOPPIX is even _more_ of a layman's WORKING LINUX and very
CA>user friendly from all reports I'm getting.

NOT really until it gives you a CHOICE on the Hard Drive in addition
to running form the Boot CD. NOW running form the CD can be a timed
automatic selecrtion. BUT before it has any thoughts for filling the
needs of the computer unaware that option must be presented.

CA>TW> And overall it can be Cheeper then an equilivent MS
CA>TW> computer setup and gives you the satisfacyion of NOT lining
CA>TW> the Tyrants Pocket.

CA>The hardware, Linspire, is inexpensive but KNOPPIX is free and
CA>Linspire charges $99 per year for access to their software.

Again IT is not really a Viable Option. It is strictly a TOY for the
budding LINUG geek right now.

CA>I find it sad so many rush to make money from programming that
CA>was done for free by people who will never see a dime of that
CA>money.

He is simply providins a service for a void in the computer market. HOW
is that different than RedHat or others charging for somethong that you
ay is FREE.
You are not paying for ther Operating system you are paying for the
Service that you NEED to use LINUX.

CA>TW> But then the MS propoganda machine is VERY powerfull.

CA>For the most part M$ ignores Linux.

Actualy in the Server markey they are looking over their Shoulder.
BUT YES in the Home market they hacve nothing to even be concerned
about. That is why I think Linspire is a good IDEA. IF it would make any
inroads it would be soemthing for them to Worry about. AS would any
other distribution of LINUX that really took the Uniniated Home Market
seriously and put out a REAL Beginners edition.
