Did anybody watch the Rose Bowl Parade on TV on New Year's Day? There
were a couple memorable bird items on there.
First, the commentators interviewed some guy with a HUGE Hyacinth macaw
on his shoulder. I walked into the room just as they ended the
interview, so I didn't find out who he was; I just heard that he was
involved in the parade organization somehow, and was riding on a float
with his macaw (who was quite un-fazed by the TV cameras and crowds).
Second, was the float built by Costa Rica. I've seen other parrots on
floats in this parade before, and these were by far the best I've seen.
It featured two macaws, a B&G and a Scarlet, sitting in a palm tree. It
was probably 25 feet high, and VERY well done. The colors on both birds
were PERFECT (tough to do with flower petals and spices). Right down to
the lines on the macaw faces, the details were correct. The Scarlet had
the right colors in the right order on the wings, and the B&G was in a
pose as if it was preening under it's left wing.
I just wish the TV coverage let one look at each float longer before
going to the next one!
Happy New Year, everyone!
