subject: The Beginning

The start of the current research and activity in the addiction field is
an article entitled "The Brain" published in Scientific American in
September of 1979. That revolutionized the treatment of alcoholics and
addicts in this nation.
It was the first article about neurobiology and how the human brain
actually works but most certainly not the last. I quote: "The problem
of understanding the brain is a little like that of understanding
proteins. There must be millions of those ingeniously complicated
molecular inventions in every organism, one protein quite different from
the next."
Quite a difference from the theories of Skinner and Freud, no?
This article was the first comparing the brain and computers. The
first research on the brain was done by the folks who developed the desk
top models that we use today, not the medical community. Therefore, they
could chose to ignore it and have. 1979. 18 years ago. And mental
health is still guessing while those into neurobiology have gone on to
write such books as "The Broken Brain" and publish many more papers.
And, help thousands to optimum health and happiness.
