The figures vary according to who develops them.  We get taught that 20%
of the drinkers consume around 80% of the beverage alcohol in this
nation.  Not all of them are alcoholics, just those who drink the most.
There is also a population which has inherited the brain chemistry of
the alcoholic and who doesn't drink.  There is one family near here like
that.  The mother tends to become  obsessed with a project and then burn
out, one daughter is hyperactive and whinny, the other normal.  She
never did drink, her brother is a very active alcoholic, but she
exhibits all of the signs and symptoms of a dry drunk.  And can be a
miserable person to be around when she is burnt out.
She also isn't taking any of the food supplements or remedial dietary
measures that a recovering alcoholic would be taught to use to stabilize
that same brain chemistry on a daily basis.
Believe me, if her brother ever sobers up (not likely as his parents
have become classic enablers), then he will be more likely to be able to
integrate into society than his sister is.
I've got an adopted grand daughter, natural parents both are drug
addicts.  The child has a mild seizure disorder and tends toward the
things that ADD children are known to do....hyperactivity and deviant
behavior.
Think I can get my daugher interested in leaving processed sugar alone
or not feeding it to her kids?  Or in any kind of trial diet for the
girl?
Of course not.
There are hundreds of kids like this, Jerry.  Kids who will be fed the
worst possible things by loving parents who then will wonder just why
the kids react the way they do as teenagers.
