Concerning _Skeptic's corner._, RON TAYLOR said to TROY H. CHEEK in UFO:
RT> The operative word here is "alleged". Lots of folks claiming to have
RT> stuff, but few actually producing it.
Define "producing it". Do you honestly think these people are going to box
up their artifacts and ship them off at their own expense to each and every
skeptic who questions them? That seems to be what some people expect. If I
had something like that, and you wanted to verify that I had it, you'd have
to come to me.
RT> Nahhhh... just curiosity seekers. I have to believe that if a story
RT> circulated by ANY means that a UFO had landed, there would be multitudes
RT> of people flocking to the site.
But would any of these people be the so-called "skeptics" who'd been
clamoring that we show them proof?
RT> I don't know what "angel hair" is or how it is related to UFO's. Is it
RT> some substance that has been linked somehow to aliens?
The claim is that angel hair is a light, silky, gossamar (sp) substance
similar to cobwebs or spiderwebs. It's been seen ejected from UFO's and has
also been found on the ground or in trees in areas where a UFO was recently
spotted. It sometimes covers areas as large as a football field. It differs
from ordinary cobwebs or spiderwebs in that it sometimes glows slightly in
the dark, sometimes has a caustic effect on human skin, sometimes causes
respiratory distress, but always disappears after a few hours, whether left
where it is found or locked away in a sealed glass container.
In my case, after losing sight of a UFO which I was following in the woods,
upon reaching a clear area, I was surprised to find it the grass completely
covered in spiderwebs, something I'm sure I would have noticed on my way
through just a few hours before. Upon my return the next day, the spiderwebs
were gone. I didn't think it at all related to the UFO until I read about
angel hair many years later.
THC>> (Which spawned a lengthy argument in and of itself. Would a single
ab
THC>> test which clearly showed something to be of alien origin but
estroyed
THC>> the sample be sufficient?
RT> It certainly would lend credence to the alien hypothesis, but probably
RT> wouldn't be widely accepted unless they could reproduce their
RT> experiments. Its hard to believe that a lab would have to consume ALL
RT> of any specimen to evaluate it when labs routinely do testing on trace
RT> samples. From my skeptic perspective... just another excuse.
A mass spectrometer requires a sample of several grams, IIRC, and the implant
in question was near the minimum sample size. I don't know what tests you're
referring to. When taking samples for medical tests, the least one I know of
requires 15 ml. Concerning the DNA tests at the O.J. trial, the defense
protested that a sample was not split so that both sides could do their own
tests, and the prosecution countered that split samples would not be large
enough to test.
>> what evidence would be necessary to convince you that UFO's were of
>> alien origin, or that alien abductions actually take place?
RT>
RT> As I stated in another post... an announcement or proclamation by any
RT> U.S. government agency, any recognized scientific organization, or any
RT> recognized college or university.
So, you're saying that what it would take to convince you is enough other
people already being convinced?
Besides, the USAF announced that they'd recovered a flying saucer way back in
1947...
