youse was overheard. i have strong opinions if you're talking pit bull.
i have a 60 lbs. brittish staffordshire bull terrior, plays gently with
kittens, children. the dog was never, never struck when raised, stern
tone of voice and newspaper smacked on my hand only. praised when
obedient. you do have to understand the nature of the breed however
and the dog must know and understand you are *top dog*. one really
and truely important thing, keep that animal well bathed as they
become increasingly beligerent when not, this has the additional
desired effect of establishing top dog. if challenged by the dog
never ever back down, stare it down until it looks away first.
once again, never strike the dog, someday he'll get tired of it
and decide he can dish it out as well as take it. mines not fixed
as he ain't broken and i trust this dog before _anyone_ i've ever met.
this dog seeks only to please and is walked off lead exclusively.
however i'm still well aware of the animals capabilities and realise
that training must be a lifelong thing with him, as long as i don't
screw up he won't. it's kind of funny to watch this animal hunch his
head between his shoulders and slink away to hide behind something
when you roll up a newspaper. best regards.
