If, as I suspect, it will run on Avtur, it will be extremely popular
in the UK. The duty on Avgas here is about 40 cents a litre ($1.50
a gallon) whereas Avtur is about 3 cents a litre (10 cents a gallon).
Not that it's anything to do with the major airlines refusing to pay
those high tax rates on Avtur, whereas the ordinary folks who fly
piston engines don't have the clout.
The government's excuse, last time the subject got raised by someone
high enough up the scale, was that a lower rate on Avgas would mean
folks putting it into their cars. So Avgas got hit with the car fuel
tax rate. But of course, farmers get their diesel fuel for their
tractors duty free and are told not to put it into their cars . . .
So if that Zoche is 40,000 for a 300 HP, maybe they'll do a 200HP
soon, at $30,000. Would suit us Arrow fliers a treat!
