-> Sounds incredibly nice- I'm a sucker for semi-tropical places.
-> BIrds, birds, birds!
And MORE birds. We saw a flock of redwing blackbirds on our way ito town
today, and I saw a "Lesser Grebe" nesting the last time I went to the
bird sanctuary on the Rio Grande. (pretty rare anywhere else)
-> Wow- bird news on tv. Sounds like the parrots have friends, at
-> least.
We have two outstanding wildlife photographers, (One on each station)
who document everything that goes on in our little corner of the world.
One of them sort of specializes on Amazons, while the other leans toward
raptors. So, we get a fine set of stories with pix on lots of subjects
including some whitetail deer footage that'll knock your sox off!
-> Fascinating, but it's strange that there's debate on whether the
-> parrots are native or not. Seems like it would be a factual
-> question. . .
Seems so to me too, but there's people who'd argue with a fencepost if
it'd talk back to them.
-> Sounds like you and my husband would get along- he loves cherry
-> pickers and whatnot.
Get him on my OLD_ENGINE echo. We talk about all kinds of that stuff.
-> which Amazons are quiet. The Lilac Crowns, huh, in your
-> experience? I've never known a quiet one.
WAIT! I never said they were quiet! I said they were "not as
loud" as most of the other Amazons. My LC could wake the dead with his
'celebration of dawn' exercize. I swear he sounded like a treefull of
parrots calling and answering himself in many different voices.
-> Good grief. I've occasionally thought about getting a mate for my
-> horny little DYH hen, Zigs, but the very thought of TWO of them doing
-> their sunset screams makes my ears hurt.
Our next door neighbors (200 yards away) had a DYH who got in screaming
matches with my Yellow Cheek. I 'spect the wee critters in the fields in
between HATED it! (I know I did!)
-> Well, back to the New Year's festivities.
Have a great new year. Ours is off to a rousing start. CAR trouble!
