Jane Kelley wrote it for Bob Moylan to answer..
How about this one....
BM>JK> YES, IT DOES. ALCOHOLICS AND ADDICTS WILL APPEAR TO "BENEFIT" from
BM>JK>drugs of their choice. The alcoholics function much better with
BM>JK>alcohol in the early stages of their addiction.
BM>You can't read Jane, you can't see the forest for the trees. You
BM>can't see the difference between an alcoholic's craving for alcohol
BM>and a junkies craving for whatever they are hooked on and a medication
BM>prescribed for a specific purpose. The alcoholic chooses to drink
BM>that's plain and simple; the junkie chooses to pop that pill or shoot
BM>up on whatever.
Sorry Bob, I have to back Jane on this one. And i don't often to
that. Although they may take those first drinks or pill or needle
in the vein out of curiosity, fun, dares or what ever, addiction is
real. Seldom does an addict really desire to continue even though
he(she) finds enjoyment in the drug. Addiction to alcohol is
actually addiction to a metabolic product found to be in unusually
high incidence in alcoholics. An addicts body actually NEEDS the
drug to function properly during the addiction phase. Additionally,
addiction, once established, doesn't disappear simply because the
drug is ceased. Once an addict, always an addict has been proven to
be fact in the last 5 years. Also self medication is well
recognized in many mental disorders. The drug of choice makes the
patient feel better and respond to life better. Just as nicotine
has recently been shown to have an affect on Tourettes.
