JBA have been extremely generous in their promotion of Guidelines. GL
has a scripting language that puts it into the platform-independent
league with XVT and Neuron Data, and the last release had BC++ output
capability for Win using your OS/2 design (given the addition of a CUA
add-on for Win). I thought the little "cartoon" help balloons were
silly until I tried to figure out the VisPro/C++ demo's tool bar:
keeping their README window up with the toolbar key clutters the screen.
Once you have some air time with either, such help is redundant, but GL
obviously goes the extra mile there. The GL pricing is fair, and seems
to have forced competitors like Gpf to revise their pricing schedule
and/or product line. You can download a demo of GL, essentially the
Basic package, from many OS/2 BBSes, and it's also on the Hobbes CDs.
I like VisPro/C++ personally, because it generates ICLUI code ("Hmmm,
neat. If I use one of THESE classes, the EXE will get so big, even
16MB systems will have to swap...") and because the intro has a great
price. Being able to visit the vendor a few times a year is an added
bonus; CIS is fine, but a bit of whirling metal always helps to put a,
er, fine point on any discussions. Plus, I'm not on CIS anymore.
JP> I've seen Guidelines working with CSet++ 2.1 and OS/2 WARP 3.0.
As have I. See my note to C. Swanson. icc has some nasty problem with
LINK386 but GL compiles/links are fine.
