As you say, spaces have been the main delimiter for many years. They
continue to be. Even if you could come up with a dozen instances of
where other delimiters are used for command line parameters, it
wouldn't come close to the fact that they are the sole delimiter for an
enormous quantity of legacy and existing and currently developed CLI
tools and shells.

As you say, "deal". There has been no turn of the tide regarding the
use of space characters as command line parameter delimitation. There
has been a general shift away from CLI operations as a whole, but I
haven't seen the desktop onto which you can drag a series of objects
into a stream which will pipe each output to the next in sequence until
the stream has ended.

As to the dots in filenames, it's obvious that the OS/2 rule for using
the first dot fails at defining a useful extension. Filename extension
is more reasonably that part following the last, not the first, dot.

I can't imagine what would be broken by fixing this flaw any more than
I can imagine anybody in a position to even do the fixing at all.

Again, we "deal"

Tranquility,
