Screw what it has to do with right and wrong.... what does it have to do
with our perception of Cuba (and it's still adamantly communist
dictatorship) is the question that should be asked.

As for "folks only caring about situtations that get publicity"
heck... what planet without CNN have you been residing on lately? That's
how that whole thing runs - Ethiopia was absolutely unknown until one of
the networks put it on at 6pm....

I've nicknamed our local paper the "fishwrapper" which is as good
a description of it's usefulness as anything.
