ML>> JF> Yup..........that's to the tune of 600 bucks now, I believe.

ML>>that depends on what satelite services are available in your
ML>>area and which you choose to use...

JF> I thought with the concept of satellite in one place, it
JF> wouldn't be that difficult to provide service over, shall
JF> we say, the continential US without any trouble..?

it is not difficult... in fact, that is exactly what it done... i don't
know how many there are, though... starlan is another on that i've heard
about but i don't know who runs it...

JF> What solutions out there are less expensive than DirecWay?
JF> [formerly Direcpc, you got me there.] :)

i don't know...

ML>> JF> DirecPC will be nice and let you pay for it $100 at a time.
ML>> JF>

ML>>that service is called DirectWay... i'm not sure what they charge as their

ML>>$100/month at T1 speeds, that's a pretty darned good price, all things
ML>>considered...

JF> Its not metered, from my readings (and watching) it - saw a
JF> special on DirecTV of all places....

they currently have a channel dedicated to it that plays the same
infomercial over and over... i really hate it because those that know
better can see numerous glaring marketdroidisms designed specifically to
"scare" people and get them to join up... one major one is their
explanation of how a dialup connection works and their satellite
connection... they detail the stuff in the teleco Central Office but they
completely gloss over their internet NOC (network operations center) which
is as convoluted or so as the CO...
