-> WC>-> BUT you are not me. The point is you cannot just pull any component -> WC>-> out of yuor Junk box and have it Work UNLESS they are all from -> WC>-> Disassembled LINUX machines. There are still a number of Hardware -> WC>-> glittches with LINUX. -> WC>Packard Bell 486 and H.P. Pavilion here. -> WC>No glitches. -> I have never owned a Packard Bell, MUCH smarter then that. And by the -> way In the late 40's I worked in a Radio Repair Shop and Packard Bells -> were CRAP them. Well the crap still operates just fine these 11 years later. I bridged two pins on the cheezy daughterboard modem regaining COM 1 replacing it with first an internal than external hardware modem. I added a Creative CD-ROM sound card combo which also still works fine. I upgraded the RAM but could use 2 32 Meg parity 72 pin FPM units to top it off. I added an aftermarket I/O card for large hard drives. With just 20 Meg of RAM I could view a JPG slideshow, telnet QWK downloads, browse the internet, download newsgroups and simultaniously also play Midi, WAVE files and play audio CDs all at the same time. -> I did have a HP pavilion but never tried LINUX on it. It likely won't like your sound card or modem but I replaced them. -> But I do have two Vectra VL's(One desktop and one Tower) that I could -> try, SOMEDAY. I've been looking over Ebay for them but they don't show up often aand when they do they're OLD. -> Althouhg I may try the 3 CD set of Mandrake 10.0 that I have. -> BUT realisticly it is WAY down on my Priority List!! :-) I snag a new drive first of next month and Knoppix is going back onto this machine. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5a* Origin: FidoTel & QWK on the Web! www.fidotel.com (1:275/311) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 275/311 106/1 2000 633/267 |
