I'd say (outa my hat, nothing backing me up) that since most home users
that buy preloaded systems as an appliance rather than a hobby, or a
learning experience, or whatever we do, they keep their systems a lot
longer. They don't buy an OS, they buy a new system. So probably many
got their first computers with Win31, then replaced it with a win98
system, and now are replacing their win98 systems with XP. Those more
interested in how their computer works and have the upgrade bug may
have done 3.1, 95, 98, read that ME was crap and skipped it, wasn't
sure about 2000 and are now getting XP. Or Linux.
If you're looking for new winblows licenses, I've been picking up my
98se licenses at
http://www.computersystems2go.com/
Pick your flavor of winblows you want, search for the sticker only, and
find a friend who'll burn you an OEM disk. 2000pro for $27.80, win98se
$15.50, ME $17.50, XP home $47.40.
