subject: 110 AC vs DC homepower

-> Some folks worry about the waves from the VGA that they sit
-> in front of a few hours a day, rather than the electric
-> blanket they sleep next to. Duh? Is frequency important?
No. Not in the context of what you're talking about.
Electromagnetic energy is electromagnetic energy, and no matter what the
frequency it hasn't seemed to affect most of us in ANY way. (And, the
elkectromagnetic field from each and all of these things is pretty darn
weak when you get right down to cases.)
Your triggerable switch works because your body 'picks up' the 60 cycle
ac field and couples it into the switch circuit. (Not that your body
BLOCKS it) If there's NOT any 60 cycle to pick up, (as in your DC
homepower situation) there's just NOTHING to trigger the circuit. The
whole concept is based on the AC field that surrounds most of us.
The people who WORRY about these fields simply don't have enough to
occupy their minds! It may not be the most NATURAL thing in the world,
but they don't HURT us, or I'd be dead long since. I've been exposed to
high intensity RF radiation, 65-960-2000Mhz up to 13Ghz. Nothing! I've
spent considerable time under 66Kv to 330Kv 60 Hz transmission lines.
Nothing! And of course most of us are surrounded by 60 Hz fields ALL
the time! It DON'T hurt us!
So, while your triggerable switch is not gonna work in a DC environment,
YOU're not gonna be hurt in an AC environment. VGA, electric blanket,
or microwave oven. (As long as you don't stick your head in the latter.)
 ^..^
BTW, where ya been? I was sure shocked to see yez HERE! Don't be a
stranger!
