If you use a decent OLR like OLX |-)
you have a pair of fields in the message head, NUMBER and REPLY TO. The
REPLY TO field contains the number of the message that this one is a
reply to.

Normally an OLR cant do that reply linking itself cos even tho it knows
the number of the message being replied to, that number may change
between the downloading of the QWK and the uploading of the REP later.
Many systems, particularly the Hudson message base systems like seen
with RA, renumber overnight. PCBoard system almost never do, but they
are exception, most systems have renumbered overnight in the past as
part of the mail maintenance.
