I wasn't saying that, I was saying the temperature differential between
water and air is what determines intensity, not overall stored energy
levels.
It makes no difference if the air is 70 and the water is 80 or if the air
is 72 and the water is 82 you have the same temperature differential and so
the storms have the same energy potential. In fact if you now warm the air
by trapping radiation on it's way out of the atmosphere the air will be
warmer and the temperature differential will be less not more.
