Oh don't go there......

Next you'll be saying that the US should ally itself with Israel in trying
to bring down a (recently) democratically elected Arab gov & that that
will have no unintended consequences for the "freedom agenda"
within the Arab world.

The days when Middle Easterners viewed the US as anything other than a
rogue nation armed with nukes & looking out only for itself & it's
colony are fading into history.

But hey I'm sure some poor sap like Condi will be sent round to try &
convince people that the US really does believe in democracy etc.

& I'm sure the Arabs will be too polite to actually laugh out loud.

Wrt nukes etc as well as a number of other ME things the age of the
convenient fiction is disappearing. Israel has nukes. It is not a member of
the NPT. It should be under a major embargo etc esp of missiles & other
mil ordnance......instead.....etc.etc..So Iran will be nuclear
"capable" & why not.....?

Other fictions such as the West (US & EU) being "honest
brokers" in Israel/Palestine have also just about faded. They should
wrap up the Quartet while they have time to make it seem dignified. Lots of
unemployed & unpaid armed police etc who may well not blame their gov
but Israel & it's western sponsors...& who may thank iran & the
Arabs for every/anything they send....

Oh & then incredibly humorously...even though they have purposely left
the PA security forces unpaid...they witter on about the PA internal
security "cracking down on terrorism" etc.

& the Arabs see Lieberman probably getting the Israeli "internal
security" ministry.....w/o even a murmur from the West...

Ah well, in the long run it's good coz these fictions can't last any longer.
