A retired General is an american citizen. By defintion he is no longer part
of the military as he has retired from the military. Thus the
"civilian control of the military" canard is just that.

A retired general is a civilian ergo how can he be leading some threat to
civilian control?

Many Americans were in the US Military & then went on to political
office & to make political comments.

Are you impugning the patriotism of the american mil ?

Heck their oath is :

"to defend the Constitution of the United States of America from
enemies foreign and domestic"

Note the "& domestic".

Are you impugning President Eisenhower?

Once they retire they become simple american citizens with the right to say
anything about anyone esp wrt anything political.

The "return to civilian life" part is a central plank of having
an army of the people for the people etc.
