I think the thrust was more from OS/2, and M$ had no answer. Did you know
that IBM and M$ were in co-development for a 32-bit GUI until M$ walked?
Shortly after that, seemingly *every* Windows driver you'd
"upgrade" would sink OS/2 if it resided on the same system.
