| subject: | Need help with hardware lockup |
My son's computer freezes quite frequently. I suspect it is either the hard drive or the motherboard, but which one? Just prior to freezing the hard drive makes a high pitched buzz then click (I cannot hear this but my son can) and a few seconds later the machine locks up hard. I tried adding an IDE controller card firguring if it was the integrated IDE causing the problem then this would be a cheap solution. That worked for 6 weeks and then it started doing it again. The lockup's are intermittent. The computer might work for a few days, then it will happen. Now I have to decide on replacing the HD or the MB. I'm guessing HD, but would like some feedback on what it might be and why is it happening. The HD is a low end Western Digital 40G and the MB is an ASROCK. Thanks, Jon ------------------------ Yahoo!
