Sebastion, I face the same situation at work. We use Samba instead
of NFS, but it is the same situation. We map remote drives on both
UNIX and DOS boxes.
I find it too distracting to try to remember what format the file
needs to be in for each box. And too often, it's wrong in the first
place due to someone elses editor, so I can't just leave it as-is! I
depend on TSE to make it right no matter what I do.
My solution is based a few macros that set the EOL type
based on drive. In my case, drives H, I, and J are UNIX and the rest
are DOS.
On the down side, my solution was written for me and not for
distribution, so drives H, I, and J are hard-coded rather than being
user configurable. Using it in another environment where H, I, and
J are not UNIX would produce undesirable results.
On the up side, it also works on writing blocks to a file on disk.
You can't just hook ON-FILE-SAVE or blocks don't write correctly.
You or anyone else that would like it are welcome to a copy, but I
don't have time to fix it up for distribution. If someone would like
to, the code will be in the public domain. Just ask!
