-> I'd suggest that you rent a higher quality video deck for your master
-> recording: Betacam SP, for example. The deck may be $300 to $700 per day,
-> the tapes run $20 to $40 per hour, but the picture quality is much better
-> than Hi8, especially if you'll then edit the master tape, then send the
-> edited master for duplication.
Ha! Well, for a wedding, I only get in the neighborhood of $400 (that's
bout
the going price here in town), so the Beta is out of the question. My friend
has an MX-1 (which has a built-in TBC) and it seems to preserve performance
and
quality even in VHS, so until I have customers demanding better quality (i.e.
broadcast), I'm sticking with Hi8 or less... :)
-> However, if your
-> multi-camera shoot will go directly to duplication without any
-> editing, added titles or other processing, you may get an acceptable
picture
-> from Hi8 or SVHS for your master tape. Another possibility, if you aren't
-> shooting a live event, is to shoot film-style: use a single camera, set up
-> lighting for each point of view, and shoot the same scene from several
-> different angles (setups), then edit them together to show the audience
your
-> different points of view. Feature films are usually shot this way so that
-> there's more control over the lighting and look of each shot, without the
-> compromise of having to light for several cameras at once, and without the
-> fear of getting another camera in the shot by mistake.
Yip, that's what I've been doing... Seems to work the best that way except
that
you lose an extra generation... I'll do the weddings live once I get the
swithcer (and I may even do the graphics, too (if I feel like totin' my A2000
along)) and then tack on the reception at the end in a cuts-only fashion.
-> You'll need an extra bookcase soon for all the tapes you've made! :-)
Already do! :) I have 81 tapes already and that's been mostly within the
last
year or so. Gettin' there quick!
Thanks for all your help and comments. I appreciate it.
