Sounds probable. Maybe it's confused by the sheer size of the
msgbase? I'll try resetting my lastread pointer to something very
recent and see if that does anything.

Yes, it's on the list. I'm still mucking round with pointism
locally (std is *not* a good way to experiment with pointing). May
take a while.
