subject: lost messages

Hello Paul!

AW>> Some of the missing messages can be explained by that, but there was

AW>> 2-3 from BillG that rod had replied to in Avtech that I had never

AW>> seen. It's possibly finger trouble at my end.

PE> You hadn't seen Rod's reply or Bill's message? Rod's also needs to wait

I saw Rod's reply to a message that Bill sent to me. I never saw Bills
reply until it was quoted in Rod's message.

PE> until the next day. Bill's, and any other off-worlder's messages, get to

PE> you in the most reliable way, straight from my incoming packet into your

PE> outgoing packet. This happens as soon as I receive them. There's no BBS

PE> to get in the way to stuff things up either. I dare say you were testing

PE> out your "delete" key? If it happens again, give me the details.

By finger trouble I meant a certain unfamiliarity with golded whereby a

message to me may simply slip by.

In OLX it's almost impossible to miss a message addressed to you but in Golded

unless you set up a separate personal area, misses can happen. I tried
adding a personal area to Golded but it's useless because you have to
change areas again to reply. Admittedly messages from or to you are
highlighted but when I'm doing a speed scan of Avtech, which I often do, it
is possible that I missed a message to me.

PE>>> Unlikely, those limits look generous enough to me. Why do you want

PE>>> them to fit on a floppy? Can't you compress them with lha
etc if you

PE>>> want to take them to/from work? That way you can triple what you've

 PE>>> got now. BFN.

AW>> I take the stuff to work. copying 1 - 1.4 meg of data is slow enough

AW>> without compressing it first, although that is an option.

PE> Do you sit there watching it? Can't you do it while you're brushing your

PE> teeth? A .bat file seems the order of the day here, and you can have

PE> higher limits that way! :-) BFN.

I probably will compress, as you suggest.

Alan...
