What are you questioning? What I was inferring was that because the
connect was V42 (i.e. data corrected and therefore verified from modem
to modem), the most likely cause is problems such as interrupt latency
at your PC end, with characters being lost between your modem and your
PC. An occasional problem under DOS sessions in OS/2 or when no 16550
is enabled, and other things. Does your mode command enable the 16550
fifo? It should have the parameter "buffer=on", if not.

I didn't make any fuss about it because it still isn't slow as such,
just nothing like the blindingly fast reply processing that used to be
the case.

PE> Would that have been when I opened up the limits on the messagebase?

Yeah, that might have been it. When was that? I don't have much of a
memory for this sort of thing, but it was possible 6-8 weeks ago,
maybe even more. Yeah, could be 8-10 weeks...

PE> BTW, I woke up at about 10 or 11 am today, and

Huh? I didn't ring this afternoon... For the last few weeks, I've
been calling in the late evening, except for weekends when anything
goes...

PE> home with the system still polling, but it reached it's
PE> poll limit with Dave being busy all the time. This sucks,
PE> but that's life. BFN.

Yeah, don't worry too much about it...

'tnt, Anthony.
