Again, I'd think so, but I'll admit I haven't used any USB devices on my
Thinkpad. It'd be   
worth trying, anyway.

Yes, I'd readily agree with that. Trust me, when I do my taxes, the battery
is in (even on   
line power)! :^) 
 
FWIW, the advice I mentioned earlier is normally presented as a way of
saving the rather   
expensive batteries from an early death.
