I've red-lined cars from Hamburg to Munich, most especially my 1982 (new at
the time) Passat estate with the 1994cc I5 carburretor engine.  About
125mph in fourth gear, a bit less in fifth.  Hideous fuel consumption, of
course, but we weren't worried about that 20 years ago.
