> At what age do you have to report a child in
> California?
The quotes on your message came out really weird looking on my editor, so I'm
not sure if it was you or someone else that asked this question.
The age of required education in California, tho, is 6. Kindergarten is not a
required school year. A child who turns 6 before December 1st of the calendar
year must be enrolled in some sort of school in September of that calendar
year.
Californians have several choices in how to meet this requirement. We can
enroll the child in a public or private school of their choice. If we do not
choose either of those, there are 3 other choices. We may homeschool under
the direct supervision of a California credentialed teacher or tutor. (I
don't believe there is a set number of hours to qualify, but I may be wrong.)
Or, the homeschooler may register as a private school. One is supposed to
have at least 5 enrolled students at this private school, but friends tell me
that no one ever checks. Another choice is to enroll in a public or private
school's Independent Study Program (ISP).
Hope this answers the question, whoever asked it. :)
