There is a relationship between temperature & rate of evolution but no
one knows quite what it is & why (i.e. there are more species in the
tropics than the temperate zone & more in the temperate zones than the
frozen zones etc).
Having said that, deserts go the other way i.e. on land it's a heat + water
formula rather than simply heat.
