Hi

RM> somewhat stunned by the size of the msg base in avtech....
 RM> not bad...

PE> Some sysops do it properly. Or at least one of them does.

Great! Let me know who - I'll try his board!!

RM> i got an "Error compressing msgs" msg when trying to pack
RM> browsed mail into qwk for a quick dnload. Problem with zip
 RM> packer?

PE> Buggered if I know what happened! Brenton downloaded stuff 2 hours
PE> before you, and I didn't touch anything. The Maximus log says
PE> that the program wasn't found?! (ie either "fh" or
"zip".

Whatthehell is an "fh"? The offline bit of Maximus said "Maxpipe
spawning fh" for this (successful) dnload, and Pkunzip2 seems to
handle this qwk ok.

PE> I am sure people after you will be able to download stuff
PE> as well. Did you see how many messages were packed?

Very few. I'd used Browse in the Avtech area to look for my mail.
Tonight I used the offline, marked areas 1,2,3, said "download",
fell off chair when it said 1600 msgs, 670kbytes, 8 minutes to
dnload. Aborted, reset msg pointers to something realistic, and all
worked fine.

 PE> Another
PE> possibility is using the browser function instead of the
 PE> normal offline reader.

That's what I tried. Is it stuffed?

PE> Could you try going to the normal
PE> offline reader, and tagging PUBLIC_DOMAIN, and try a
 PE> download.

Seems to work.

PE> If that works, try doing the browse/qwk of
 PE> another small area, e.g. BLAKES_7.

Will try.

Cheers

ps keep an eye on netmail areas - msgs to Areafix without the pvt
flag set tend to reveal passwords....
