Thanks to everybody who contributed ideas.
According to Michael's suggestion, I deleted the contents of a large
picture attachment with the FC/2 editor, and the result is satisfactory:
It still shows the name of the former attachment which is good to have
as a record. It will be easy to write a little (Virtual) Pascal program
to delete the index file, make a backup copy, strip the mail file of
attachments positioned between lines beginning with the corresponding
"---------..." boundary string while preserving the first six lines, and
maybe prompt for each deletion giving sender, recipient, subject and
date/time. If I feel up to it, I might even add a Sibyl GUI...
Thanks again to everybody! I'll first have to do some work for a
customer who pays me for it but I'll find time for this project maybe
next week, and shall keep this forum posted about the progress in case
anybody else is also interested in using such a utility.
Best regards,
Stephan
