I am taking a guess here . . . I would guess that George's tour did
not sell well because it got some bad reviews and because it was
reported that he was sick and had largely lost his voice.  Further,
George stuck to some less "popular" material.

I also attended the Concert for Bangla Desh which featured George and
other musicians. However George organized it and he was the star.
Those two shows sold out like crazy. (there were also rumors that
other Beatles would be there. Of course, Ringo was there)

I remember being in the large crowd entering Madison Square Garden;
there were quite a few police and it appears someone tried to crash
the gate. I don't know what happened exactly, but I do remember
pushing and shoving, and some unfortunate fan running like crazy from
the police.

George and his band received a thunderous reception. You can hear it
on the album which also sold well.

All that I'm saying is that under the right circumstances, I think
George was capable of having a very successful tour.
