It's actual numbers from my pickup truck. Summer blend gasoline, the really
good stuff gets me 21.8 to 22 mpg on the drive to work and back. Switching
to sohio gas which is 10% alcohol and instantly my mileage drops to 18.4
mpg.
I always keep the display showing trip mpg instead of the odometer reading
so I notice this stuff. I can get a little better mileage if I drive under
65mph (I usually drive somewhat faster) and I can do the slow take off
thing and up it a little but over the entire tank of gas it seems I can
never really make much difference even if I try. The only thing that does
make the difference is the brand of gas and the grade they happen to be
selling at the time.
It's simply amazing to me I can buy gas at one gas station and get 18.4 and
at another gas station get 21.4 changing nothing else. I also found oil
changes and filter changes make squat difference, however tire pressure can
make a slight difference.
Oh and here is a really good one that I don't understand at all. I get
better mileage if I keep the tank at least half full. As much as 1 mpg,
more weight = better mileage? Explain that one to me...
