JP>-> Hmmm . . . Mas must be pretty smart -- that's almost exactly what
JP>-> **I've** been saying. :-)
JP>I've seen references (all favorable) to a posting of yours, but not
JP>the actual posting itself. It disappeared into cyberspace before it
JP>made it here.
Basically, the points were:
1. ONLY shoot when your life is in danger.
2. Shoot to stop, not to kill. NEVER say the word "kill."
3. After the shooting, call the police, attempt to do SOMETHING
to aid the person you shot.
4. Say as little as possible, and get a lawyer.
5. Have liability insurance.
JP>-> JP>The call-in needs to include the location, preferably repeated,
JP>-> JP>with a statement like "I've been attacked by an armed robber.
JP>-> JP>The suspect is down. We need police and ambulance immediately."
JP>MUCH better than just calling in and blurting "There's been a shooting!
JP>We need help!"
JP>-> JP>Arriving officers need to be told, "This man attacked me. I'll
JP>-> JP>press charges against him. ^^^^
JP> ^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ ^^^
JP>GREAT advice. I've never seen this anywhere else, and I'm not sure it
JP>would have occurred to me afterwards on my own.
JP>Of course, if the perps expired, it may be moot . . .
Not at all!! Remember, you don't KNOW he's dead (and if you do, you
don't admit it). You behave as if he were alive and would recover --
because the only reason you shot him was to stop his attack on you.
When he ceased his attack, you ceased fire and did all you could to help
him.
You're going to court over this -- and you want people to testify
favorably as to your actions, words and attitude.
