subject: renewing a copyright....

-> Disney can renew the copyright without having to release anything.
-> All they need to do is fill out a couple of forms, and FedEx them to
-> the US Copyright and Patents office. Once done, the movies are
-> protected for another 28 years. Disney then can choose to release
-> them or not release them. But since they are protected, no one else
-> has that choice -- no one else can release them.
This is not my understanding...a friend of ours, a Disney "expert" told
me that with Steamboat Willie, Disney had to put out a book with him in
it and copyright the character in that book in order to copyright the
character of S.W. Why would movies be so easy if a character is so
difficult to copyright?
